BEIOU Toray T700 Review 

The BEIOU Toray T700 is a formidable carbon frame mountain bike that offers as much as it possibly can for its price range. In addition to the frame itself, the bike has some well-intentioned features and components that further compliment it, resulting in easily one of the best mountain bikes for under $1000 on the market.

Obviously carbon frames aren't for every style of mountain biking, but if you're an avid cross country rider, and you want to make the step up to a carbon frame without spending too much, the BEIOU Toray T700 is the best way to do so.

For many, the idea of a quality, affordable carbon frame mountain bike is too good to be true.

After the creation of the first carbon frame mountain bike, only the highest price ranges were able to offer them, leading to scarcity among many unsponsored, casual riders.

Fortunately, the price of a carbon frame bike has become more affordable over the years, making them more accessible than ever.

However, it's still rather hard to find a carbon frame mountain bike that is actually affordable, and still comes equipped with quality components.

Introducing BEIOU Toray T700 carbon MTB

When you hear that a carbon frame mountain bike is under $1000, you probably assume that it's just the frame itself -- as you should. The BEIOU Toray T700 is a carbon frame and all the components, and still manages to keep the price under $1000.

As with other BEIOU Toray  carbon frames, the T700 is made from the same high-quality materials found with other brands. It has a bit of added flex in the rear to up the shock absorption factor, while reinforcing strength in other high-stress areas away from the rear.

The carbon fiber materials doesn't stop there though. In addition to the frame being carbon fiber, the handlebar and seat post are as well. This helps to keep the bike's weight down to a minimal level, while also creating a more cohesive and seamless feel from front to back.

The gear system and drivetrain are just as impressive. All of the components are Shimano Altus, giving the systems a cohesive look and feel, all from one of the better Shimano gear and drivetrain lines.

The T700 comes with 27 gears, which is perfect for its intended use. You get a wide range to choose from for all the standard riding scenarios you'll encounter, with plenty of leeway in between for fine tuning to certain conditions and inclines.

If you're worried about an inferior wheelset being used to keep the price low, don't be. The included Ruituo M200's are 26 inches, and very light and durable. Chaoyang tires provide the right amount of grip and traction for cross country and singletrack with an added toughness for any sharp hazards hiding on the trail.

The braking system is made by BEIOU, and provides the same power and control you find with some of the more popular brands found on other bikes.

Overall, the T700 is solid through and through, giving the rider a noticeably light and smooth ride that is equipped to offer higher speeds more consistently. Its combination of light weight and efficiency will make an instant difference to your times and endurance levels.

What We Like

The biggest positive about this bike is its price. It's extremely rare to get a bike this solid for such a low amount. It really does ride and feel like a mountain bike that costs thousands of dollars, while somehow remaining under $1000.

The frame is as light as you'd expect a carbon frame to be, and it's certainly built for mountain biking. The small amount of flex can be felt during rough portions of the trail, helping to absorb the vibrations that may otherwise jar your wrists and stress the frame over time.

Having a carbon fiber handlebar and seat post is a big plus as well, furthering the quality of the bike to an even higher level.

Another component we love is the GTMRK fork. It has a good amount of travel, but not too much to where it feels mushy or hard to control during more difficult parts of the trail. You can also lock it out if you want as well, which is always a great option to have.

What we don't like

This doesn't really have to do with the bike's quality, but rather its options instead. You can get the T700 in both 15" and 17" sizes, but there is no 19" option for riders who need a bigger bike. BEIOU makes plenty of other bikes in the 19" range, so it's a little strange that they just left that one out.

If you want a carbon frame mountain bike from BEIOU, and you have some extra money to spend, the 650B is a great option, and one of our favorite bikes period.

Buying Advice

Be advised that ordering a bike off the internet from an outlet such as Amazon means that you'll have to do a little assembling once it arrives. If you aren't up to speed with putting a bike together, or simply don't want to, you'll need to set aside a little money to take it to a bike shop to have it professionally assembled.

Conclusion

The BEIOU Toray T700 offers an incredible amount of performance and quality for a very affordable price range. It provides the ride and feel of a mid-range mountain bike that is fully capable of racing in competitive settings, but for the price of a step up from entry-level.

Cross country and single track riders who are looking to get the most for under $1000 should place the BEIOU Toray T700 at the top of their list.
