Our main goal is to educate you on a simple method used to create wooden bikes. First you need to create the frame, laminate the pieces together, and add the metal inserts onto your bike.
Once you’ve finished that, create the single speed chain that stays in order for the bike to run properly. You’ll know how to create a wooden bike on your own by the end of this article.
When building a wooden bike, make sure to thoroughly laminate the layers of wood. To do this, start off by making piles with the wood you have in your possession. We suggest making piles from about 2x10 to 5x10 in order for it to work properly.
Make sure that whatever wooden piece you use for the frame doesn’t have any knots. This ensures that your wooden frame will remain working without any issues. After that, you’ll want to cut it down to 10mm of thickness and then plane it down to 6mm.
Essentially, you’ll want to laminate two layers of wood together. You want to make sure that you have at least 2 four layer wood blocks with the grain going into the directions that you desire.
After the lamination stage, you’ll have two blocks of wood with a wooden frame inside of it. You’ll need to do a mixture of routing, profiling, and shaping to ensure that it works properly. Then, you’ll need to prepare and install the metal inserts onto the bike.
Next, create ⅛ piles and laminate five of them together. This allows for the chain and seat stays to work correctly. Then, you need to drill the holes to screw the stays onto the bike.
Basically, you want to make sure that everything from the stays, wheels, and brakes are properly installed to your wooden bike frame during this step.
Conclusion
If you have finally followed all of the previous steps, you’ll have a fully functional wooden bike.
Building a wooden bike is difficult to make at first, but it’s durable enough to last for up to 3 years.
Ultimately, you’ll have a fully functional bike that will work just as good as any store made bike.
